3. The Essence of Vedanta – वेदान्तसारम् – श्रीमद्भगवद्गीता –
The Bhagavadgeeta (or Geeta) is an Indian Philosophical poetic text of 700 shlokas in 18 Adhyayas and it is a part of the epic Mahabharata. The Geeta - in the form of a dialogue between Arjun and Shrikrishna, is set in the background of a war between Pandavas and Kauravas. Geeta synthesizes various strands of Hindu philosophy like knowledge (Jnana), action (Karma), meditation (Yoga) and devotion (Bhakti) for spiritual pursuits.
The Bhagavadgeeta is the essence of all the Upanishadas in easy Sanskrit. It has inspired many people from all over the world and shown them the right path in case of a moral dilemma. As such, it has got a universal appeal without any constraint of period or place. Probably no other Sanskrit text has got so many commentaries and many translations in different languages.
In this course, the Geeta would be explained word by word with some additional inputs from the commentaries by Adi Shankaracharya (8th Century AD), Sant Jnaneshwar (13th Century AD), a great freedom fighter and a scholar - Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak (19th Century) and Mahatma Gandhi’s disciple Acharya Vinoba Bhave (20th Century).
Anybody can join the course. Youths will be immensely benefited by learning Geeta as it would provide them a sound base of righteousness to lead a purposeful life in this competitive world.
The course starts from January 2026. Course duration – 34 Lectures.
4. The Essence of Vedanta – वेदान्तसारम् - दशोपनिषद: - 10 Upanishads
The Upanishads are the fountainhead of Hindu philosophy. There are 10 major Upanishads - ईश, केन, कठ, प्रश्न, मुण्डक, माण्डुक्य, तैत्तिरीय, ऐतरेय, छांदोग्य, बृहदारण्यक - and they would be taught word by word with additional inputs from the commentary by Adi Shankaracharya.
The course starts from January 2026 and it would be over only after all the 10 Unpanishads are completed. It would take about 72 lectures. There would be 36 lectures during 2026.
5. Appreciation of Sanskrit Classical Literature - – संस्कृतसाहित्यामृतरसास्वाद: – Kalidasa’s Abhijnanashakuntalam
It is said that among poetry, dramatic art is the best and among dramas, Kalidasa’s Shakuntalam is the best. It is really a masterpiece of Sanskrit language and represents Kalidasa’s perfection as an author. He has transformed the original simple story of Dushyant and Shakuntala from Mahabharat into a beautiful drama of highest quality.
Sir Willian Jones who translated Shakuntalam into English in 1789, called Kalidasa the ‘Shakespeare of India’. Unfortunately, we know hardly anything about Kalidasa’s personal life. Probably he flourished in the Gupta period – 4th Century AD.
The drama would be taught word by word with salient features of Sanskrit poetics.
Anybody interested in literature can join the course. The course starts from January 2026. Course duration – 20 Lectures
